Students must meet their own expenses for these courses. They are not included in the tuition fees paid to the Academy.
Anatomy and Physiology is necessary for students who do not have at least a college level course in the subject. It is not given as part of the curriculum but must be taken concurrently with the first year, and must be successfully completed before entering the second year. Proof of completion shall be included with your second year application.

Exemptions will be granted for health professionals such as MD, ND, DC, RN, RMT, BSc Pharm, and DVM who are currently or have been practicing within the past 5 years, provided an academic transcript is included at the time of application to the VHA programme. Other students who have studied college level Anatomy and Physiology within the past 5 years may be considered for exemption, provided they submit academic transcripts at the time of application.
For students entering the programme who have had previous Anatomy and Physiology training which is not recognized by the VHA, an A & P challenge exam is available. The exam fee is $150. The challenge exam must be written before the start of the first year. Should the student be unsuccessful with the challenge exam, the requisite A & P courses must be completed before entering the second year.
An Emergency First Aid and CPR course is necessary for students entering the third year. Please enclose a certificate of completion with your third year application.
